Limavady had 12 swimmers reach the qualifying standards to attend this week-ends Regional Open Long Course gala hosted in the Aurora Complex in Bangor by Swim Ulster. That on its own is quite an achievement as those numbers put us firmly at a level normally attained by larger clubs in the province. Limavady ASC is definitely growing.

Unfortunately, not all were able to attend, but those that did only added to this success. All  swimmers take this gala as the first opportunity in 2022 to reach the standards needed for entry into either Division 1 or Division 2 finals to be held in Dublin and Limerick respectively in July later this year. And we had a number achieve that very goal.

Young Alice and Sam both achieved Division 2 standards, Alice in 100m breaststroke, and Sam in the 200m breaststroke.

Joshua achieved a total of four Division 2 qualifications for Limerick, hitting the standards at 100m and 200m across both backstroke and breaststroke.

Our Performance Squad boy's captain Alec attained the grand total of five Division 2 and one Division 1 qualifications. And with several of those Division 2 standards at the upper end of the range, definitely more to come.

And last, but definitely not least, our girls Performance squad captain Yna reached the Division1 standard in an awesome 3 events and also won a bronze in the 50m breaststroke. A very well done to our young lady captain!

Congratulations to each and every one of the swimmers who competed this weekend. To reach regional standard is difficult enough. For Limavady swimmers to achieve so many qualification standards this early in the qualification period bodes will for the coming months. There is no reason why we won’t see better and we have so much time and many opportunities to improve!

C'mon Limavady!
